Amanda Lund Awarded Sons of Norway "Nancy Lorraine Jensen" ScholarshipAmanda Lund has been selected to receive a 2007 Nancy Lorraine Jensen Scholarship from Sons of Norway Foundation worth the equivalent of tuition for one semester, to continue her major in Physics. Congratulations, Amanda! Norumbega Lodge Awarded International Lodge of the YearVancouver, B.C., Canada. Saturday, 19 August 2006. Coast Plaza Suites Hotel & Convention Center - At the sons of Norway International's 59th bi-annual banquet this evening, newly elected President, Ted Fosberg, and outgoing President, Jim Olsen, presented Norumbega Lodge #3-506 with the Order's International Lodge of the Year award for the year 2004 (latest year judged) for Tier One (large lodge category). This singular honor comes hard on the heels of Norumbega's 2004 District Lodge of the Year award from the Order's Third District (see below). It is the Lodge's first time at winning this International award. Norumbega Lodge Holds Reception in 2004 for Gro Harlem Brundtland(by John T. Gregg)Gro Harlem Brundtland and her husband, Olav Brundtland, were honored guests at a Norumbega Lodge reception held for them and for Lodge members on Sunday afternoon, April 15, in the Nordic Hall at The Scandinavian Living Center. Gro most graciously consented to share a few thoughts with us, among them reflections on living in Boston for a year while she and Olav as parents with two young children both did graduate studies at Harvard in the 1960's plus insights gained from being both a physician and active politician/leader for Norway as well as the U.N. Her unique style of engagement is a clear sighted blend of informed, logical reasoning plus direct approach that constantly maintains respect and dignity for all involved. It was particularly apparent when Gro suggested that she wanted to publicly respond to a complicated question posed privately to her that afternoon. An impromptu question and answer period followed where she again directly engaged the issues without wavering or compromising either her dignity or that of another. It was easy to see why she held the Norwegian prime minister's office for a total of nearly one-quarter century. Asked later in the day if she might consider another high profile job now that she had stepped down as Director General of the World Health Organization, Gro replied, "I want to be a grandmother." I predict that in 20-25 years, we can expect a best selling book by one of the nine Brundtland grandchildren entitied. "I Learned All I Ever Needed to Know About Cooperative Problem Solving and World Peace From My Grandmother".
